Alila Villas Koh Russey
Noor were invited to enter an international design competition for a 30Ha resort development on a private island off the southern coast of Cambodia, to be operated by the Alila.
The design proposal empahasized a serene architecture with a strong connection to the natural beauty of this enchanting island locating villas in positions to exploit the vistas, yet camouflaged into the landscape through their materiality and local landscaping.
Noor chose to convey the sense of place through the local vernacular and recent cultural references rather than the obvious Angkor stylistic inspiration. Expressing in the design the use of local materials, techniques, shapes, construction methods, colors and references to the modernist architectural heritage of Cambodia
The design was well received and placed in the final selection between noor and another design firm.
